Guided walks with Cotswold wardens near Stroud – February and March 2025

There are a number of warden-led walks coming up within easy reach of these towns. There is no need to book and there is no charge for joining the walks, ‘though there is a box for a voluntary contribution towards materials for our work on footpath maintenance. Walks start usually at 10.00 am. and will return to the starting point. A packed lunch is advisable. Additional details are on the Cotswold National Landscape (formerly AONB) website. Sadly, no dogs allowed.

Thursday, 20th February, 10.30 start King’s Stanley

“Commons & Canals”

Difficulty medium, Distance 5 miles, Duration 3 hours.

Start at 10.30 from “the Rest” Café, Broad Street, King’s Stanley, GL10 3PN. There are 2 other free car parks within walking distance.

 

Wednesday, 26th February, 10.00 start

“Woodland Owls”

Difficulty Strenuous, Distance 7 miles Duration 4 hours.

Start from the “Rose & Crown” public house, Front Street, Nympsfield, GL10 3US

We descend through woodland to secluded Owlpen church & manor. On to Uley and a steep ascent to follow the path around Uley Bury. We join the Cotswold Way, climbing to Coaley Peak viewpoint followed by a short walk back to Nympsfield. Please bring a packed lunch.

 

Wednesday, 5th March, 2025 – Start: 10:00 am

Coffee Morning Walk, ‘Harbingers of spring’

Difficulty: Easy Duration: 3.5 hours Distance: 5.5 miles

Start point: Community shop in Coaley. Coaley lies about 3 miles NW of Dursley. There is a car park behind the village shop.

Meet at 10:00 for coffee. The walk, which starts at 10:30, takes us first to Silver St. then to the impressive 13th century tithe barn at Frocester Court. With luck there will be new born lambs to see. There is a good pub in the village for lunch after the walk, if required.

 

Friday, 7th March, 2025 – Start: 10:00 am

“Shorter and Steadier at Crickley Hill”l

Difficulty: Easy Duration: 2 hours Distance: 3 miles

Start point: the café at Crickley Hill country park, GL4 8JY. Note that there is a £2 charge for car parking.

This walk takes in the magnificent views and searches out the wildlife.

 

Thursday, 20th March, 2025 – Start: 10:30 am

‘Third Thursday Walk’ – Hills and Hillforts

Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 2.0 hours Distance: 5.0 miles

Start point: Vestry café, South Street, Uley GL11. Please park considerately nearby.

 

Every month, the Voluntary Cotswold Wardens offer a two-hour walk on the third Thursday starting at 10.30am from a café or pub, where there is an optional opportunity for refreshment at the end of the walk.
